“Since the Bates Outing Club is one of (maybe THE) oldest student-run outing club in the country, everything that is decided upon is done through us, by us, for us. For instance, two weeks ago my buddies and I decided that we wanted to spend our February break camping up on Lake Richardson in an old school canvas tent with a stove inside of it for heating.” Read more at http://telegraham.wordpress.com/

Tuesday Night Class
February 27, 2008 · Comments Off
“I was on a kind of intellectual high after that class, thinking about Existentialism and other concepts I have a difficult time spelling, so naturally the best way to express my excitement was to play in the snow. It had been snowing all day and all evening, so there was a number of inches to press snow angels into and to throw at my friends.” Read more at http://itsagreatdaytobeabobcat.wordpress.com/

when the parents come to visit…
February 25, 2008 · Comments Off
“To make up for my decision to stay at school over our week-long break, my parents decided that if I couldn’t come to them, they would come to me. And dedicated they were (and I’m sure they’re reading this because I told them about my blog…). They left before sunrise in order to beat the snowstorm. Unfortunately they managed to drive through the entirety of the storm.” Read more at http://itsagreatdaytobeabobcat.wordpress.com/

What will become of the Napkin Board…
February 25, 2008 · Comments Off
“What I want to know is whether or not the napkin board will be transferred from the old commons to the new commons. The napkin board is a very special part of the Bates culture. In the old commons, when someone felt the need to express a concern, suggestion, complaint, or complement about the food or the dining facility, one would take out a pen, grab a napkin, write down whatever was necessary and would post the napkin on the napkin board located at the exit of commons. Every week commons workers would post clever responses (or well-reasoned objections) to each student-posted napkin.” Read more at http://aviewfrompage.wordpress.com/

how long will it take students to stop calling new commons “new commons”?
February 25, 2008 · Comments Off
“Seriously. Old Commons is no more. Starting this morning (the “soft opening” as Dining Services calls it), the Bates community ate in a BEAUTIFUL new building. But that’s besides my point, because we all knew it was going to be wonderful and exciting and huge. The building is new, but the old Commons doesn’t exist anymore. So when are we going to move on from the past at just call it “Commons” with some kind of regularity?” Read more at http://itsagreatdaytobeabobcat.wordpress.com/

Back home

“I finished my midterms last Friday and I came home for February break a little less than a week ago. My friend, who lives outside of Boston, came down to New York for the first part of break with me. We met up with another Batesie and together we all explored New York City.” Read more at http://aviewfrompage.wordpress.com/

i think “thesis” should be a verb.
February 18, 2008 · Comments Off
“So this Sunday couldn’t be more different than the last. Today, campus is deserted. Most students have left to spend a week at home, with their team and training somewhere warm, skiing or some other fun vacation. Then, there are the lucky few who choose to stay on campus. Luck for thesis-minded me, there are enough epeople I know who are staying. (But at a school this size, there are bound to be people you know everywhere.)” Read more at http://itsagreatdaytobeabobcat.wordpress.com/

“People have been anticipating the loss of Commons (what is now being referred to as “old Commons”) in a variety of different ways. Some people dressed up for their “last supper” in the space. Others (myself included) took pictures. Heck, I even took a panoramic video.” Read more at http://itsagreatdaytobeabobcat.wordpress.com/

Goodbye Commons
February 15, 2008 · Comments Off
“This morning was supposedly my last breakfast in what I’ve known and loved to be Commons for the last year and a half. It was a good breakfast - omelet day always is - but as I looked around at moose paintings and midget-sized chef statues, I realized that I am gonna miss this place, or at least the decorations. By the time all of Bates College is back from break, New Commons is expected to be fully furnished and equipped with new seating arrangements, gyros stations, sushi bars, personalized hot lines to fit everyone’s tastebuds, waiters and waitresses, silk tablecloths, and large sofas instead of wooden stools to eat from.” Read more bout Naima’s thoughts on her last meal in old commons at http://naimasnook.wordpress.com/

Panama Recap

“In a few words: worthwhile, mesmerizing, amazingly splendingly awesome (I’m even making up words). Panama City was a beauty, the ocean breeze, it was easy to breathe relaxation and of course live it for a few days.” Read more about Uriel’s trip to Panama at http://mexicomaine.wordpress.com/
